In 2014 , over 1.7 million burglaries occurred in the United States (source: FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program – 2014 Report). Landlords with vacant apartment units on the market are not exempt from this statistic. Consider taking measures to improve home security at vacant properties such as installing interior alarm systems (with motion sensors and glass break detectors); fake exterior video cameras; and plenty of “SMILE – you are on camera” signs.
